From Jaipur with Love - our insiders guide to the 'Pink City'.

aipur, the capital of Rajasthan, is a paradise for anyone with a passion for fabrics and interiors. Known as the Pink City, it is a vibrant hub where centuries-old textile traditions meet modern design, offering a sensory feast to those who seek beauty in every thread and pattern.

Upon arriving in Jaipur, the first stop for any fabric enthusiast should be the bustling bazaars. Johari Bazaar and Bapu Bazaar are brimming with colourful textiles, block-printed fabrics, and intricate embroidery. Each shop seems to hold a hidden gem.

I’ve been travelling to Jaipur every year for over a decade, since Sarah.K was founded 12 years ago. I still work with many of the talented block printers that we met in those early days and watching them at work never fails to amaze me.

I also love nothing more than ‘treasure hunting’ on these trips, finding one-of-a-kind textiles including embroidered Kanthas and Suzanis that our customers love using as bedspreads, sofa throws or even headboards.

These trips are also about sourcing new makers, talented artisans that can turn my product visions into reality. Last year we developed our Toleware collection with a family run business outside Jaipur that still uses centuries old techniques to turn metal into our beautiful scalloped planters, trays and coasters.

This year we have started working with a rug company that hand weaves the most beautiful designs and use only natural dyes. The results are truly stunning and we can’t wait to share them with you.

But Jaipur is not just about fabrics, its also about the sights and sounds that you encounter at every turn. Here are just some of our ‘unmissable’ things to do in this amazing city.

  • Visit the Anokhi Museum to try your hand at block printing and learn the history behind this amazing craft.
  • Visit one of the bustling spice markets to witness and colour and vibrancy of this amazing city.
  • Try the delicious street food, especially this delicious potato delicacy.
  • Sip sweet lime soda at Bar Palladio and marvel at the amazing blue and white interiors
  • Visit Monkey temple, not just for a close encounter with the resident monkeys but also to admire the city view
  • Enjoy Wonderful curries and naan bread at Neros Restaurant on Amer Road, Jaipur
  • Relaxing in the extensive beautiful gardens at the amazing Samode Bagh hotel, surrounded by peacocks, colourful woodpeckers, kingfishers and monkeys.
  • Visit The Palace Ateliar, a lifestyle store housed in a courtyard of the owners 18th century home, the City Palace of Jaipur, this is a lifestyle store and living museum all rolled into one.

Most memorable moment: Meeting Monica the Elephant on a street corner, she was returning from a local wedding in all her finery.
